April’s Top Gardening Jobs – Part 2
March 22, 2023May Gardening Tips for Annapolis
April 19, 2023Warmer weather typically arrives in Annapolis by April, National Garden Month. There isn’t a better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than gardening, and the following will cover how.
History
President Reagan, sponsored by the National Gardening Association, signed the proclamation that created National Garden Week in 1986. However, many eventually realized seven days were not enough for a big country like the USA, and the celebration was extended to last the whole month of April in 2002.
For the Love of Gardening
Every April gives us a chance to celebrate our love of gardening. The plants and trees we grow, the natural beauty surrounding us, the feel of the earth between our fingers, and the sunshine on our faces are reasons we spend so much time in gardens. Along the way, we can get gentle exercise, fresh air, and fresh vegetables and get closer to nature, making our bodies and minds healthier.
The joy of gardening can also be shared, enriching our friendships and communities. Our gardening experiences can involve community gardens, educational events, garden clubs, and seed swaps, bringing all who participate closer together. City dwellers don’t have to be left out. Urban gardens allow kids and grownups to be closer to nature and have fresh, healthy vegetables for their meals.
National Garden Month is a celebration of the coming of spring, recognizing how the earth sustains us all. We often take the soil under our feet and the sun above for granted. Our planet is filled with incredible biodiversity, which includes everything we plant in our gardens. Plants and trees are sources of sustenance and shelter for animals and humans.
Part 2 will cover four beautiful ways to celebrate National Garden Month this April.
